Question by Taylor H: how much is my 1948 sterling silver quarter worth?
I have a sterling silver quarter from 1948 and was wondering what it was worth if anything?

1948 quarters are made of silver(90% silver composition) so even in very worn condition, it's worth at least 7x the face value.

Retail values for 1948 Philadelphia mint quarter(no mint mark) in average circulated is .50, almost uncirculated is and uncirculated from .

The 1948 quarter has a mintage of 35,196,000 and the high figure has been keeping the values low.

25 cents. If you want to buy one in uncirculated a dealer will charge -.50, mostly for the time involved in opening the register. the silver ones thru 1964 are worth more....

Question by Alex W: Should old coins be cleaned or will it lower value?
I found a box of old coins like: a silver dollar dated 1922 and a wheat penny dated 1918, lots of buffulo nickles, some old dimes and quarters as well. they are a bit filthy (and stink)and i want to clean them but i know not to wipe or scrub them. should i clean them?

NO, do NOT clean them. The patina is part of the value, if any.

If you do want to clean off some old, stinky coins the cheapest way to do it is to take some vinegar, add some salt, and dump in the coins. This does a very good job of cleaning them. If you then want to shine them you'd have to buff them up with a rag and some polishing compound.
